Message from our founder

Greetings valued readers.

My name is Sharika Sukhu Govender.

Three years ago, I started a group called the queens. My vision was to create assistance for women who faced challenges and had the desire to rise above their bleak circumstances. I had an amazing team that volunteered their time to my vision of empowering and equipping women to believe in themselves.

The queens offered a full range of assistance for every member, a prayer line, free legal advice, career mentors, food aid, a ccma labour counsellor  and lay counselling just to name a few.

You may wonder why I felt the need to create such a group, I’m by no means, fame seeking, nor am I a speaker, I’m not a social media influencer, I’m not a model, I’m just a simple women always staying behind the scenes.

I created the queens to cover everything that I been through since I was just 12 Years old.

I recall whilst writing this message that at the age of 13 when I tried to escape from my abuser,  I was beaten and stabbed on my head and at the age of 14 a few months before I was rescued jumping out of a moving car in one of countless attempts to end my life.

I survived as a child with a child and faced the harsh reality of society, but that is a story for another time!

The queens covered most aspects that I had no assistance dealing with during my difficulties however I still felt incomplete, on one of my zoom meetings with my admin team I pitched the idea of The magazine, we divided the teams and we began working on it.

My vision then for i  am warrior magazine was to give a platform to women from all walks of life so that they can share their life’s journey and advertise their small female owned businesses  free of charge.

My vision for I am warrior magazine in 2021 is that we continue to empower small female owned business through free advertising and also, feature the dynamic women around us who are making a difference in society behind the scenes, in conjunction with the launch of The lifetime achievement award and the Warrior Queen Award.

My mission is to get this magazine on the shelves of retailers so that the proceeds from the sales of our magazine will go towards elevating the small businesses of women from disadvantaged community’s. However the magazine will continue to remain free on all digital platforms.

Thank you to my incredible team for believing in my dream and vision and for standing by my queen code of conduct

Service to humanity is service to God, your right hand need not know what your left hand is doing. All gratitude to the almighty for this grace and strength in allowing us to bring life to this vision.

Sharika Sukhu Govender representing hope for the hopeless.
